Showcase Ganti OLI!

A month-long showcase in a Bandung shophouse basement, where six people who call themselves mechanics put street art, augmented reality and live sound against what they name a crisis of awareness.

The title is a mechanic's phrase. Ganti OLI means change the oil — the thing you do when an engine has been running too long on what's already in it. The six people behind this showcase call themselves mechanics, and that is the whole argument in two words.

Oligarki sedang mendominasi negeri, para nasionalis semakin dikebiri, banyak termanipulasi. Semua mengejar 'makmur', meninggalkan yang 'adil'.

Opening lines of the Ganti OLI! statement

Roughly: oligarchy is taking over the country, nationalists are being cut down, many are being manipulated. Everyone chases prosperity and leaves behind what is just.

The statement then sets out what it means by crisis, and refuses to let the word stay narrow.

Bukan hanya krisis lingkungan, bukan hanya krisis hukum, bukan hanya krisis sistem politik — tetapi krisis pemerataan, dan krisis kesadaran.

Not only an environmental crisis, a legal crisis, a political-system crisis — but a crisis of distribution, and a crisis of awareness

What is actually happening in the room

The venue is Hallway in Bandung, West Java — an SME space occupied largely by people working in creative fields. The showcase runs about a month, from 28 July to 26 August 2026.

Physical works are shown alongside digital ones layered over them through augmented reality. The listed approaches are street art style, AR, expressive mark-making, and audiovisual effects. Across the month the space also hosts spontaneous activity responding to the room and the theme: live sound experimentation, public discussion, temporal art collaborations.

Three of those sessions are fixed, and they're listed under SCHEDULE at the end of this page.

The mechanics

Six people work under the KULTSe name, described in the proposal as working casually, responsively, collaboratively, and using present-day technology as part of the experiment rather than as decoration. Full list under THE MECHANICS at the end.

The mix matters here: two painters, an illustrator, a visual effects designer, a programmer, and a musician. That's what makes the AR layer something built in-house rather than bought in.

Two options, and the one they took

The clearest part of the statement is a choice it puts to the reader, laid out as two numbered options.

One. Diam, tidur dan bermimpi; semoga esok baik-baik saja. Stay quiet, sleep, and dream that tomorrow turns out fine.

Two. Bergerak, bereaksi dan mencoba berkontribusi; walau mungkin kalah. Move, react, and try to contribute — even if you lose.

Dan kita memilih . . mencoba bersuara.

And we choose to try to speak

The proposal closes on the same line it opens with: Sudah saatnya Ganti OLI! — it's time to change the oil.

Details here come from the KULTSe proposal document. Dates and programme are subject to change — check with the organisers before travelling.
